Meet the Lucy Family!
Mike and Susan Lucy met on a blind date! A neighbor/boss thought they would be a great pair and was absolutely right. They were married in Fort Worth in 1998.
Susan is originally from Denver, Colorado. Growing up there gave her the opportunity to ski, play soccer and enjoy the mountains – something she dearly misses. Before graduating from the University of Colorado at Denver, she spent a year living in Northern Germany. While living there she learned to speak the language and love the food. After moving to Texas, she was hired as an accountant for Geac Computers. Before having children, she earned her MBA from the University of Texas in Arlington.
Mike is originally from Southern Virginia. From an early age, he knew he wanted to fly airplanes. After graduating from the University of Virginia, Mike was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force. His began his career in Del Rio, Texas as a flight instructor but soon found himself flying C-130’s. Mike too had a chance to enjoy German food and culture. He was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany for two years and eventually moved back to the States working with the Texas Air National Guard. After landing in Arlington, Mike was hired by Southwest Airlines. He flew in the right seat for several years and currently works in the Flight Training Center at Love Field. After 20 years with the military, Mike retired in 2004.
Mike and Susan have two sons, Jackson and Cole. Jackson is a first grader at Hidden Lakes Elementary. He is an active young man, having played soccer, basketball and baseball. He also enjoys swimming and riding anything with wheels. Jackson also began Cub Scouts this year.
Cole is in pre-school and very anxious to start at Hidden Lakes next year to be closer to Jackson. Cole is the comedian in the family always trying to make the others laugh. When he isn’t making people smile, he is trying his best to keep up with his big brother from on the field to on his bike.
Susan became a full time mom when Jackson was six months old. She enjoys spending time with her boys and friends. She is an active member of Keller Moms Konnect and the PTA. In her free time she loves to read and play mid-field on the soccer field on Monday nights.
The Lucy family live in Hidden Lakes. They are glad they have chosen Keller to raise their children. They feel very fortunate to live in a great city with many great friends and neighbors.
So when you see the Lucy's out with the kids, say Hello to Our Family of The Month and let them know you heard about them on OurGreatCity.com!
Meet the Abercrombie Family!
Kevin and Christie got a crazy idea two years ago while visiting the Metroplex for business. She was 6 month pregnant with the triplets and they both enjoyed their life and business back in California but….. “What if we just sold everything we owned and moved here?” Christie said. Kevin and Christie were both stunt people in Hollywood and worked on most of the major motion pictures and television shows. They also owned a Children’s Sports Complex. In fact, a conference for Soccer Facilities is what brought them to our area. They had always agreed that if ever blessed with children they would not raise them in California. Most people don’t get three at one time; so they knew they did not have much time. Moving a pregnant woman would be much easier than three potentially premature babies.
“Many people think that their life is set and it can not change,” says Christie. “I had this epiphany that if we weren’t totally satisfied then we could change it.” It was a big deal being 6 months into a high risk pregnancy. They decided that as long as they were both willing to give this a try; things would work out. They got off that tour bus, bought a house, went home to sell everything that they owned, and ask the doctor for permission to move. One month later, they were here in Keller. It was a very busy time. Their doctor made them develop a list of every Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit along the way and promise not to stop the car until they arrived. Flying was out of the question. They were so set on having Little Texans that they knew they would make it and they did!
Meet the Smith Family!
Jason and Jennifer Smith got married in 1998 and set up their home in the area. Jennifer grew up locally and Jason moved here from Abilene when the two got engaged. After living in several suburbs in the area, the Smith’s have settled down in the Keller/Roanoke area to raise their daughter Raylen.
Jason works for JP Morgan Chase in Dallas and Jennifer is a nanny for a family in Keller where she gets to take her daughter with her. Jennifer left her career in event planning shortly after adopting Raylen in order to bond and spend more time with her.
Raylen was nearly two when the Smith’s welcomed her into their home in 2006 after she had lived in homeless shelters most of her young life. The Smith’s learned about Raylen through a cousin that knew the family caring for her and began the pursuit to adopt her. Jason and Jennifer count Raylen as a blessing and a miracle after struggling with infertility for seven years. Raylen’s adoption became final in 2007 and she will turn four this summer. Through all of this, the couple has developed a love and passion for orphans and hopes to eventually serve families in the community to increase adoption awareness.
