State Senator Jane Nelson and members of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission presented a check for $8,556 from the Loan Star Libraries grant funds to the Keller Public Library in a special ceremony on September 23, 2010.

The grant is among those awarded to 541 accredited public libraries, from $6 million approved by the Texas State Legislature, for the fiscal year 2011 Loan Star Libraries program. Loan Star Libraries grants provide critically needed operating funds to augment local funding of public libraries and The Keller Public Library will utilize the grant to deliver a higher level of service to all library patrons.

Until the Texas State Legislature began funding the Loan Star Libraries program in 2002, Texas was one of just six states that did not offer direct financial support to public libraries. For many Texans, these libraries provide their only source of free Internet access, as well as information and learning resources of all types.
