MMOW Announces Recipe for Success
Metroport Meals On Wheels (MMOW) is launching our “Recipe for Success” Campaign. Our “recipe” is to raise $250,000 to renovate our building which will yield the “success” of greater diversification of the funding base for MMOW’s meal programs. The key ingredients in our Recipe for Success are financial gifts from foundations and community friends.
We are excited to report that we have raised over $228,000 toward our goal. Amon G. Carter Foundation provided a leadership gift of $50,000 for the campaign. The Meadows Foundation, Inc. and J. E. and L. E. Mabee Foundation each awarded MMOW grants of $50,000, and the Hoblitzelle Foundation has granted $25,000 for this project. We have also received generous grants from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Foundation, Frost Bank, and The M. S. Doss Foundation, Inc.
The planned renovation will expand Sadie’s, our resale operation, and consolidate program operations. These improvements would build capacity for MMOW through more efficient program operations, expanded profitability of Sadie’s, and a safer and more efficient environment for the staff and volunteers. It will provide appropriate separation between resale operations and MMOW’s meal program services while eliminating wasted space and consolidating Sadie’s two stores into a large, unified store.
Sadie’s has grown from gross sales of $76,000 in 2001 to sales in excess of $283,000 in 2009. The proposed expansion will enable Sadie’s continued growth to meet increasing funding needs for MMOW’s meal programs.
As a locally funded nonprofit organization that receives no federal funding, MMOW is a grassroots volunteer advocate for the elderly and those in need through home-delivered meals, senior center lunches, and other support services. MMOW is Neighbors Helping Neighbors to alleviate hunger, isolation, and loneliness in our communities, and to foster the independence, worth, and dignity of each individual we serve. By building a diversified funding base, MMOW will ensure the sustainability of our meal programs and assure the community that meals will continue to be available to all who need them.
Throughout MMOW’s thirty year history, our community has repeatedly shown how much it cares about the welfare of our elderly and disabled neighbors. That caring concern has empowered MMOW in its mission of assisting marginalized seniors whose resources are limited.
MMOW needs just a few more monetary ingredients to complete our campaign. We ask the community’s help now through personal gifts that are over and above the generous program support that is traditionally provided or as advocates for MMOW with civic, corporate, or foundation funding sources. Together, through Recipe for Success, we will continue to provide a great neighborhood for our seniors.
