Community Storehouse Assists in Homeless Prevention Program
The Keller Community Storehouse has been awarded a stimulus grant in the amount of $999,950.
The money is allotted for the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Rehousing Program. This grant is stringently designated; the majority of the monies coming to us will go to families needing this very specific assistance. What this means is that anyone who is on the verge of being evicted from property may qualify for assistance with rental property so they do not become homeless. It also covers those who are homeless by providing a program of rapid-rehousing.
On the afternoon of Friday, October 9, the Storehouse helped a homeless woman and her son who attends Keller schools. They were living in their van and the Storehouse was able to move them temporarily into a motel and subsequently into a shelter as it works to secure stable housing for them. Many people are coming to the Storehouse for help because they are finding themselves only a couple of weeks away from home mortgage eviction.
Keller ISD wants to make our community aware of this assistance and how to qualify if they need help. The Community Storehouse is hoping to cover local areas including KISD and Northwest ISD before moving out into other parts of Tarrant, Denton and Wise County.
