History Being Made at Keller Fire-Rescue

Keller Fire-Rescue has announced the promotions of Fire Captains Doug Haas, Jackie McCaig and David Jones to the newly established rank of Battalion Chief for Operations, effective Jan. 2. The promotions mark the first time the rank has been used in the Keller Department, a result of a recent reorganization to better meet the needs of the community. All three are longtime members of the department and Keller High School graduates.

Jones will take command of the "A" shift. He joined Keller Fire-Rescue as a volunteer firefighter in 1988 and was hired as a full-time firefighter the same year. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1994 and then to Captain in 2007. His accomplishments include an Associate's Degree, and the following certifications; Master Fire Fighter, Master Fire Inspector, Master Fire Instructor, Hazardous Materials Technician and Paramedic. He also serves as Hazardous Materials Coordinator and Department Fire Accreditation Manager. He has also served recently as Interim Division Chief for Operations, Infection Control Officer, EMS Coordinator and Training Coordinator for NEFDA Hazardous Materials Response Team. Jones and his wife Karen have three children.

Haas will take charge of the "B" shift. He joined Keller Fire-Rescue in 1985 as a volunteer firefighter and was hired as a full-time firefighter in 1988. He was promoted to Captain in December 2008. His accomplishments include an Associate's Degree and the following certifications: Master Fire Fighter, Master Fire Inspector, Master Investigator, Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor II, Hazardous Materials Technician and Paramedic. He has been selected twice as a Keller Fire-Rescue Fire Fighter of the Year and is currently serving as the Department's Standard Operating Procedures Coordinator. Haas and his wife Ashley have two children.

McCaig will command the "C" shift. He joined Keller Fire-Rescue Keller Fire-Rescue in 1983 as a volunteer firefighter. He briefly served Richland Hills as a full-time firefighter before being hired full-time in 1988 in Keller. A year later he was promoted to Lieutenant and in 2007 was promoted to Captain. He has served Keller Fire-Rescue Volunteer Fire Fighter Coordinator, EMS Coordinator and Hazardous Material Coordinator. He was one of the primary forces behind the EMS system currently operated by the Department. His certifications include: Advance Fire Fighter, Intermediate Instructor, Fire Officer II, Hazardous Materials Technician and Paramedic. McCaig and his wife Lisa have two children.

A promotional pinning ceremony was conducted Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Keller Fire Station No. 4. As part of the ceremony, the newly formed Keller Fire-Rescue Honor Guard made their inaugural appearance, presenting the colors.
