In Love with Our Words?
Submitted by: Laura Steves, PhD, PsyD, Chief Mom Officer of Mommy's Company
We all know folks who are in love with their own words. It's almost as if there's a spigot with the "off" switch broken off, somewhere inside their mouths. It sometimes gets to the point that we hope to avoid speaking with them; for fear that they may pause for a breath.
In truth we're all "that person" at one time or another. We find ourselves in those awkward moments, when we're halfway through what seemed like a profound statement, when we suddenly realize we have no idea what our point was.
There are also the awkward moments, when it seems that if only we grope for the right words we can the defuse the tension in the room. More often than not, though, we find words escaping our lips in those moments we wish later we could take back.
