Our Great City
United Through Reading at Barnes & Noble
The USO of DFW Airpoort is proud to offer the United Through Reading Program. This is one of the selected USO sites to offer service members and their families a great opportunity to read to their "little heroes".
When troops are on active duty, the children miss the comfort and security that they experience when their loved one reads to them. The program helps our service members stay connected with their children while fostering the joy of reading.
United Through Reading at the USO/DFW provides an opportunity for our deploying Service Members to choose a new book and record a DVD of themselves reading to their "little heroes". After the video recording is made, the DVD along with the book is mailed back home where the child can watch and spend time with Mom, Dad, or their special loved one as often as they wish!
This past week the Greater Keller Women's Club held a book drive for this program at Barnes & Noble in Southlake. Children gathered to listen to a fighter pilot read to them. People were able to purchase and donate books that they felt children would enjoying having their parents read. For more information on how to donate or hold a book drive, please contact Cindi Cooperman at mailto:ccooperman@neuroassistance.org.
