Thinking Back and Looking Ahead
I hope you are having a safe and enjoyable summer! It’s that time of year where I like to think back on all that this district has accomplished in the past year. We successfully completed TAKS testing in the spring with improved scores, many of our campuses received recognitions for outstanding academic performance, and we had a number of students participate in state competitions for academic, athletic and fine arts achievements. We truly are an exceptional district of intelligent students, talented athletes and performers, and dedicated educators – our capabilities are endless.
Not too long ago the Board of Trustees created a powerful vision statement that we’ve come to live by: “KISD – an exceptional district in which to learn, work and live.” This statement couldn’t be more accurate, as we recently found out that Money Magazine named the City of Keller 7th in its top 100 “Best Places to Live” ranking of small U.S. towns, up from 50th the year before. Although Keller ISD is also home to students from eight other cities including Colleyville, Fort Worth, Haltom City, Hurst, North Richland Hills, Southlake, Watauga, and Westlake, it is very exciting to be a part of this recognition and to know that KISD was an important consideration for this award.
With the new school year upon us, it’s important to realize that continuing to excel does not come easy – it’s takes a great deal of time, hard work, and most importantly, heart. But I know we can do it. Strong collaboration by KISD administrators, teachers and parents allow us to stay focused on our journey so that our students will receive the very best education and the essential resources they need to achieve success.
As the 2009-10 school year approaches, I anticipate the new heights we will reach as a district – both in and outside of the classroom. Keller ISD is committed to the academic achievement of our students as we continue to be Intentionally Exceptional in all that we do.
Sincerely,
Dr. James R. Veitenheimer
Superintendent of Schools
